• Studied Sculpture in the University of Port Harcourt 1995
• Interest in photography began in 1996
• Moved to Lagos and started working as a photo trainee and assistant in Dolphin studios Surulere Lagos • Participated in the 4th edition of the African Photography Biennale in Bamako 2001
• Founding member of Depth of Field collective in 2001
• Won the Elan prize in 2005 Bamako Biennale
• Set up the Photo.Garage Lagos in 2007
• Won the Prince Clause Award in 2008
Uche works in mostly semi-constructed style of photography where he captures moments in performance-like situations.
He has exhibited extensively both Locally and internationally, showing in the Snap Judgments Exhibition in the International Centre for Photography New York in 2006 and the 2nd international Contemporary art Biennale of Seville also 2006.
The artist has played a key role in mentoring the younger generation artists working in photography,Names like Emeka Okereke ,Abraham Oghobase ,Uche Okpa-Iroha a few of the lens-based artists trained and influenced by the work of Uche James Iroha.
Uche currently works as the conductor of Photo.Garage Lagos ,an informal but sincere place where artistic exchanges can happen, it also serves as a training ground for tomorrows artists that have chosen the camera.
